February Presidents' Report

Lyn delivering 5 cartons of toys from JCCV members 2

Happy New Year to everyone. 2018 is already shaping up to be full of outings and events for us to participate in. No doubt some of you will have a new Jaguar or maybe two in your garage since our last meeting and I will look forward to hearing all about them soon.

On Monday, 11 December Ian Barton and I delivered five cartons of toys to the Nicholas Pavilion at the Melbourne Showgrounds. A large group of volunteers were sorting donations for the Smith Family Toy and Book appeal.

Sadly thousands of Australian children go without receiving a gift in the holiday season simply because their families can’t afford it. Our donations were greatly appreciated and they have sent a huge thank you to the members who participated by donating gifts. You have helped put a smile a child’s face at Christmas.

Our club has now reached the milestone of 55 years. Back in 1962 it was estimated that in years to come membership may grow to 50 or 60. We now have more than 900 members in Victoria. We begin 2018 in a good space knowing we have two tenants in our front offices. Alterations to accommodate them are complete.

I must take this opportunity to thank the members of the Clubrooms Management Committee for their tireless work behind the scenes coordinating the operation of our clubrooms. For the benefit of new members this committee often referred to as the CMC is made up of three members of the Austin Healey Owners Club and three from our club. The committee is responsible for the management of the building, the tenants, clubrooms bookings, financials, general maintenance and the bar. A huge responsibility for volunteers.

Register visits will again be a focus for the committee this year in particular the Country Registers. We hope to get to know you all and understand how your particular register operates.

I would like to thank everyone for their condolences after hearing my father Stan had passed away. He had a long and happy life reaching 95 in September 2017.

I was fortunate to spend precious time with him in recent months chatting and asking those questions we often leave too late. A special man who left us with treasured memories to last a lifetime.

Our first meeting will be on Tuesday, 6 February and it will begin with a Spit Roast Dinner for those who have registered and paid on Trybooking. If you are not partaking in the dinner please come as usual to the meeting that will start at 8.00pm.  I look forward to seeing you there.
