Our 2017 Concours and Display Day impresses English Classic and Sports Car magazine

Long-time club member Heinz Schendzielorz was quick on the draw and whipped off a Concours article and photos to a popular English car magazine which was equally quick to print it. It is a bit hard to read the scan so we will repeat if below followed by the scanned article and photos.

Think Heinz may have made an error though in listing Bruce’s 420G as a Mk X. According to Bruce his Mk X is still a work in progress and should be ready for entry in the 2018 Concours.

An outstanding array of Coventry’s finest gathered for the Jaguar Car Club of Victoria Concours and display in the grounds of Wesley College in the Melbourne suburb of Mount Waverley on 19 November.

The machinery on show ranged from the 1930s examples – such as Ivan Stevens’ cream SS100 and John Clucas’ similarly stunning silver car – up to the latest models from dealers.

Five D-type replicas took pride of place in the central display.

Immaculate saloons were out in force too, such as Bruce Elliott-Smiths multiple prize-winning Mk X (sic) which was again victorious. Event regular Heinz Schendzielorz was delighted to see a 420 that he had sold 34 years ago to Max Altman, who over time, has restored the car to its former glory and enjoys it regularly. Altman’s children have told him that he is never to sell it.

Something of a rarity in the Antipodes, it was one of two present. As Schendzielorz puts it: “A very overlooked, usable classic Jaguar.”

Nearby was the wonderful, much-travelled Mk VII that John Jones has owned for decades, along with an evocative line-up of rarely seen Mk IVs and Mk Vs – as well as the turnout of Mk 2s plus assorted XKs, XJ6s and E-Types of all varieties. It wasn’t all Jaguars though, some JCC members brought their Big Healeys, MGBs and a Rolls Royce Silver Cloud.
