MKIV & V

MKV & VBefore and after the War, SS/Jaguar range of sedans and dropheads continued to be developed. The style and quality of workmanship and finish were only challenged by the most highly priced motor cars of the day. The price of Jaguars was frequently only half that of its opposition.

The basis of the Jaguar heritage began with the design of the first SS sedan in 1935. Not until 1948 and the MK V were there any major alterations even then the variations were sympathetic and the style continued to epitomise the grace and style of Jaguar cars.

The pre and post was MK IVs were powered by 1.5, 2.5 or 3.5l motors of simple design. For MK Vs the 1.5 was deleted as an option. The flat rear floor of the V was achieved by clever engineering. The chassis and torsion bar suspension was another innovation which like so many Jaguar components were to be used in several models. MK V, VII, VIII and MK IX and in slightly modified form for all the XKs.

The drophead version of these cars are extremely rare today and command high prices. The MK V was to be the last to use timber in its body work (Early XK 120s used some timber as well).
