S-Type

Available with Chrome Wire or Disc wheels this lovely example in Opalescent Light Blue is a delightful example.History

Intended as an upgrade to the Mark II, whose sales had dropped drastically in 1962 & 63, the S type was desgined with styling cues from the Mk X, IRS from the E-type and many detailed improvements over the Mark II.

Released in late 1963, the resulting vehicle sold well in 1964, 65 & 66 before the release of the 420 and Daimler Soverign successfully supplemented sales in 1967 & 68. The 420 incorporated upgrades to front brakes, power steering, air conditioning, interior safety and of course used the 4.2 litre engine which had been available in E-types and Mark Xs from 1965.

In the end, Jaguar allowed the S-types, 420 and Daimler to run together with the Mark II through the 60's, a debatable strategy that was emphaticaly renounced when the range was replaced with the XJ6 model in 1968.

Register Activities

The S-Type Register aims to support and encourage owners to use and restore their vehicles.

We maintain a list of vehicles owned by members and friends for the purpose of collating statistics on surviving vehicles. We welcome owners of S-types (particularly in Victoria) to submit their vehicles details by email to the register secretary.

Overnight weekend runs are held in Spring and Autumn, please email the register secretary for further details.
