Mk 1, 2

The 1955 MK I was Jaguar's first attempt at producing a 'compact' sedan, it proved to be a stroke of genius. Whilst originally aimed at the lower end of the prestige car market, the entirely new designed and developed model proved to be eminently suitable for enhancement and improvement over its production life.

With the 1959 release of the MK II the motoring purist was delivered a refashioned and revitalized sports sedan. A most competitive car in its day in the hands of such luminaries as Salvador, Moss, Hawthorn and our own Bob Jane.

All enjoyed great success all around the world. Bob Jane was recently reunited with his famous MK II when his business colleagues surprised him on his birthday!

The MK I introduced Jaguars first non chassis car and by the time the last 240 and 340 finally rolled off the production line many further mechanical improvements had changed the 'simple' MK I into a potent and highly successful race car, police car, family tourer. Every doctor and vet in the UK seemed to own one.

With the marriage of Jaguar and Daimler (June 1960) certain models have been selected to carry the 'D' badge and the very distinctive grill. The V8 powered 2.5l '250' was to enhance the long line of Daimler motor cars.
